What is important to you? It might be a strange question to ask yourself before you work out… but give it a shot.
How does fitness play into the important things in my life?
Why do I want to be fit?
What does being fit even mean?
What’s the point of fitness for me?
Unfortunately, most people that come into the gym don’t think about the answers to any of these questions. This generally leads to two things; trying a bunch of different things – with few to no results, or doing the same thing over and over – with few to no results.
2 Steps You Can Take:
- Understand what things are important to you, and what the point of fitness is to you. Think about it, write it down, and know that it can and will change over time.
For example; Traveling with my wife is important – I want to be able to be adventurous while traveling and not worry about my body holding me back from doing fun things – one point of fitness for me is to be able to move well for long periods at a time.
- Ask questions, experiment and research to figure out what you need to be doing in order to achieve what you want.
This may seem small and insignificant at first, but this is the foundation to your personal fitness. If you first understand what things are important to you it will help to direct what type of workouts you need to be doing.
So next time you come into the gym ask yourself… what’s the point?
