Food Fun for Families

If you have a kid or two that is bored, driving you crazy or zoned out in front of a screen consider getting in the kitchen with them for some fun activities. The ideas below will fill up some free time and get the kids hands on with food.

And we’ve included a bonus family friendly, kid-approved recipe as well!

Food Art

Materials: Flour or salt and a baking sheet.

Sprinkle flour or salt on a baking sheet. This best to do outside if possible.

Show your child how you can draw in the flour or salt with your finger. Draw letters, numbers, shapes or play games like hangman or tic-tac-toe.

Taste Test Challenge

Materials: Bite size food items (Don’t let your kids see what foods are being used!) Ideas: banana, peanut butter, cooked rice, cheese, marshmallows, tortilla chips, ice cream. A blindfold.

Blindfold your child and have him/her smell and then taste each food. Have him/her describe the various smells, tastes, and textures before they guess what it is.

Be a Food Critic

Select a new food to try or recipe to make.

Taste the food and then rate it on a scale of 1 to 5 for how it looks, tastes, smells and texture.

Decide if worth serving again.

Recipe – Tortellini Skewers

If you want to make eating fun then put it on a stick. Think of deconstructing meals like a pasta dish or sandwich and putting each ingredient on a bamboo skewer.
