Many men are confronted with the reality of their bodies changing as they age. These changes might be the result of declining levels of the hormone, testosterone, which can occur as one enters their 30’s.
Typically, a man begins to lose testosterone at a rate of 1-2 percent a year. To put this in perspective, most 70-year-old men will have testosterone levels that are 10 percent of the level of a healthy 25-year-old.
Declining testosterone levels have been associated with the increased risk of diabetes, metabolic syndrome, cognitive decline, bone loss, poor heart function, systemic inflammation, and sarcopenia (decreased muscle, increased body fat). Of course, men may discuss the changes they feel with their medical provider only to be told that they have to accept it and that it’s “just part of getting older.” However, it doesn’t have to be that way. Help is available.
If you answer YES to a number of the following questions, you may be suffering from low testosterone.
- Do you have less energy/more fatigue?
- Are you feeling the loss of strength and/or endurance?
- Do you have lower libido or less sexual function?
- Do you have more trouble controlling your weight?
- Are you finding less enjoyment in life?
- Have you experienced a loss of drive or competitive edge?
- Do you have mood changes or irritability?
- Do you have declining fitness and exercise tolerance?
It takes a simple blood test to have your testosterone levels evaluated. For more information on this, contact the Anti-Aging Center at PRO Sports Club.
Remember, balanced testosterone levels can result in an improvement in one’s well-being, energy, body composition, bone density, sexual function, mood, weight management, fitness/endurance and overall enjoyment of life. It’s important to remember that this is not a “one size fits all” solution. Each man’s situation and physiology is different, so one’s care must be individualized. It’s advisable to see an experienced physician who is qualified in hormone replacement therapy. With properly supervised treatment, you can experience a healthier, younger and more vital you!
Isn’t it time you got out of low gear?
